NBA star Victor Wembanyama’s jersey has become the main talking point after the San Antonio Spurs fell to the Golden State Warriors.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted that the French sensation’s name was spelled incorrectly on the back of his uniform during Friday’s 118-112 loss.

Wembanyama was the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NBA draft.

Standing 7-foot-4, the 19-year-old has already shown off his potential with a number of eye-catching performances.

During the first quarter on Friday at Chase Center, a mistake on Wembanyama’s No. 1 jersey alerted the NBA world.

Fans noticed that Wemby’s name read “Wembanyana”, with the final M replaced by an N.

Scores headed to social media to point out the error, with one writing on X: “Someone just lost his/her job.”

Another said: “How can this even happen?!”

“Misspelled Wemby jersey will go for millions,” a third said. “Like a misprint on a rare sports card.”

Spurs staff were alerted to the misspelling during the second quarter and promptly changed their rookie star into a fresh top.

Wembanyama admitted: “It’s a real shame. I don’t know if somebody got fired but the Spurs did their job by checking my name and noticing it.

“But, I don’t know, it’s a real shame.”

Wemby finished Friday’s loss with 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists.

But he was unable to prevent the Spurs from falling to an 11th-straight defeat.

Earlier this week, San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich made headlines after begging Spurs fans to stop booing former player Kawhi Leonard.

Popovich grabbed a mic during the Spurs’ loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday to chastise the crowd for jeering Leonard at the free-throw line.

He raged: “Excuse me for a second. Can we stop all the booing and let these guys play?

“It’s got no class, it’s not who we are. Knock off the booing.”

The Spurs will look to halt their alarming losing streak on Sunday night against the Denver Nuggets.
