Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky began the $8million renovation of their Byron Bay mansion before Christmas.

But construction is still rumbling on for the couple’s multi-storey coastal abode set in the hills above Seven Mile Beach at Broken Head.

Striking aerial shots show the sprawling concrete estate covered with bare brick walls, scaffolding and building materials – looking worlds away from the dream home Chris and Elsa had no doubt envisaged.

There appeared to be little progress on the estate, aside from the foundations of what looks like a huge infinity swimming pool.

The new home, which is located in a secluded spot surrounded by vast greenery, looks set to dwarf its neighbours with its size.

In 2016, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported Chris and Elsa were ready to splash out more than $8million on the renovation of their Byron Bay estate.

A development application for alterations and additions to the Seven Mile Beach Road property, which he owns with wife Elsa Pataky, was lodged to Byron Shire Council on 2 November 2016, according to the publication.

Chris and Elsa lived in the east coast residence with their three children – daughter India Rose and twin sons Tristan and Sasha – before relocating to a rental property nearby.

The Gold Coast Bulletin reported at the time that the application priced the renovation at $8.778million.

Plans for the work outlined the demolition of the existing house and structures, and the building of a new swimming pool.

The Hollywood heartthrob and his Spanish-born wife purchased the Broken Head mansion in September 2014 for $7million.

In its former state, the house – which was spread over 4.2 hectares – had eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms.

The couple moved back to Australia from America less than a year after snapping up a Malibu mansion for USD$4.8million.

They made a handsome profit on the LA estate, having listed it for USD$6.5million in February 2016.

The Parisian-inspired residence sold for USD$665,000 more than its asking price just two months after hitting the market.

But it seems Chris is keen to hold onto the Hollywood lifestyle after he and Elsa spent USD$3.45million on another Los Angeles home in April the same year.
