Why Is Michael Bublé’s Love Song Voice So Popular?
Michael Bublé is a name that has become synonymous with music lovers around the world for the past two decades. It seems that this Canadian crooner was born to sing love songs, as all of his successful albums are associated with the word “Love.”
Endless Passion
His passion for jazz music began around the age of 5, when his family would play Bing Crosby’s White Christmas album during the Christmas season. It was at the age of 13, during another Christmas, that his family first recognized his vocal talent.
In addition to his intense passion for singing, Bublé also has a deep love for sports, particularly ice hockey. For a long time, he aspired to become a professional hockey player. However, over time, his love for music grew stronger, eventually overshadowing all of his other interests.
At the age of 16, Bublé started performing in his first shows at local nightclubs. His grandfather, a plumber from the small town of Preganziol, was his biggest supporter. He even paid for Bublé’s music lessons. Bublé has often shared how his grandfather’s jazz music collection greatly influenced his musical taste.
“My grandfather was my best friend. He opened the door for me to a whole world of music that seemed outdated to my generation. Although I loved rock ‘n’ roll and modern music, the first time I heard him play the Mills Brothers, something magical happened. The lyrics were so romantic, so real. It was like I could see my future ahead of me. I wanted to become a singer then, and I knew that this was the kind of music I wanted to sing,” Bublé recalled.
The drive to become a singer, combined with the support of his grandfather, motivated Michael Bublé to participate in a local talent competition and win. However, he was disqualified at first for being too young. A few years later, at the age of 18, he won the Canada’s Youth Talent Search competition and began performing in various shows.
Bublé’s career began to take off when he met David Foster, the Grammy-winning producer and music director at Warner Bros. Foster, with his sharp musical taste and understanding of public preferences, had already built successful careers for divas like Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and tenor Andrea Bocelli.
David Foster helped shape Bublé’s debut album in 2003, which carried a nostalgic feel, honoring legendary artists. Bublé gained attention by reviving classic songs from past icons, bringing a refreshing yet retro vibe to the music market. His second album, It’s Time (2005), truly launched Bublé into the global spotlight.
With his warm voice and charming looks, his singing began to turn heads in the music world. Continuing his success, Bublé’s third album, released in 2007, topped music charts in Canada, the UK, and several other European countries. Subsequent albums have been consistently well-received and have placed high on major global charts.
Inspiration Through His Career
As of now, the jazz/soul crooner has released a total of 10 studio albums. He has embarked on 6 major tours, each lasting two years; starred in 9 films across various genres; and appeared regularly on music shows and game shows from 2003 to the present. He has sold 55 million albums worldwide and won 4 Grammy Awards.
Bublé’s music is often described as blending classic style with modern flair in a harmonious and timely manner. His albums have reached the top of charts in Canada and the UK. To this day, he remains one of the most successful artists in this style. With his expressive and seductive voice, along with his spontaneous phrasing, Michael Bublé is widely regarded as the rightful heir to jazz legend Frank Sinatra – one of the most influential and iconic musical figures of the 20th century.
In 2019, Bublé released the album Love. This album marked his return after a three-year break to care for his son Noah, who was battling liver cancer. The album stayed true to Bublé’s nostalgic style and familiar love themes and received great reviews. The track “Help Me Make It Through the Night” is a sweet, poignant ballad expressing the loneliness of a couple, while Forever Now is a pop ballad filled with the heartfelt emotions of a father for his son. Love You Anymore stood out with its bass and guitar highlights, setting a beautiful foundation for Bublé’s voice.
Above all, Bublé’s voice remains smooth, round, and effortless, deeply resonating with his audience.
The album is easy to listen to, perfectly balancing Bublé’s elegant jazz/soul style to suit his fan base. It follows the familiar formula of blending classic songs like When I Fall in Love and La Vie en Rose with fresh tracks like Forever Now and When You’re Smiling. This strategy brings a new, refreshing experience to listeners, especially with his duet collaborations with female vocalists like Cecile McLorin or Loren Allred. The maturity in Bublé’s voice and his skillful handling of the songs has created a harmonious blend that allows his female counterparts to shine.
Love is not only the central theme of this album, but it has also been a consistent inspiration throughout his career. In interviews, Bublé describes love as encompassing all relationships, compassion, and family. When people think of Bublé, they often recall his soulful, heartfelt love songs, delivered through his sweet, captivating voice. This is why many fans feel that the word “love” should be part of his name – it’s the mark they always remember and adore when speaking of the artist.
