After two beloved yet unsuccessful attempts at bringing the amazing web-slinger into the center of cinema, Marvel Studios stepped up and brought us their version of the superhero with Tom Holland as Peter Parker in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. This film started the journey for the star to become the most recognizable and successful iteration of the superhero in history.

And with the latest installment in the series Spider-Man: No Way Home, the popularity of the friendly neighborhood hero shot up like crazy with the film making a record-breaking $1.9 Billion at the international box office. But amidst all the excitement and commotion, it seems like fans forgot to ask one important question about the film’s plot, which also happens to be related to Jamie Foxx’s Electro.
Jamie Foxx’s Electro Shouldn’t Have Been Part Of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home

When it comes to bringing the web-headed superhero from the pages of Marvel Comics to a major motion picture, the attempts have been made plenty of times in the past. Starting with Tobey Maguire‘s iconic Spider-Man trilogy to Andrew Garfield‘s The Amazing Spider-Man series, every single one of them has made admirable attempts to make Spider-Man the next big thing. But only with the release of MCU’s Spider-Man series was the web-slinger actually brought to the spotlight like it actually deserved.

With Tom Holland taking the identity of the superhero from his predecessors, the films that followed the tale of the superhero in the MCU were the most successful attempt at Spider-Man in history with the three standalone films making a collective box office number of almost $4 Billion worldwide. And the last film of the series, which was Spider-Man: No Way Home saw the most love and excitement from the fans. But keen observers from the audience did find a huge plot hole in the film after the hype died down, which points to the fact that Jamie Foxx‘s Electro shouldn’t have been in the film.
As almost all may know at this point, the aforementioned film saw the arrival of different Spider-Man villains from the respective universes of previous iterations, which also included Max Dillion from Garfield’s universe. The problem with this was the fact that Doctor Strange pointed out that the villains that were pulled from the Multiverse were the ones who knew Peter Parker was Spider-Man. But the problem is Dillion wasn’t aware of Spider-Man’s identity in his universe in the first place, which would make him being pulled into this universe absolutely impossible.
While this may be a small hiccup in the grand scheme of things, it’s still something that the fans find quite upsetting when they are this invested.

After the events that transpired in the last film of the series in the MCU, people were asking left and right whether they would see Tom Holland again as the spider-menace of New York City in the future. Unfortunately, as Sony holds the rights to the superhero in the end, their negotiations with Marvel Studios came to a disappointing outcome.
Therefore, for the foreseeable future at least, fans can be assured that there will be no Spider-Man films from the MCU. But Sony can now start to create their own Spider-Verse with the superhero back in their midst.
