I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! fans admitted they were in tears after hearing McFly star Danny Jones, 38, open up about his relationship with his dad.

Danny spoke to campmate Oti Mabuse, 34, at the fire pit, and revealed that he wanted to change his middle name, which he got from his dad. However, the musician shared that his dad doesn’t speak to him, and admitted: “It’s just weird because I don’t feel I’ve really healed with it maybe.”

Oti then asked about him going to therapy, with Danny explaining that he didn’t think missing his dad could ever be healed. He then shared that fellow campmate Barry McGuigan, 63, was serving as a father figure to him in the jungle – just moments before Barry was evicted. “You can go to therapy, but you still crave your dad and that’s what’s hard. That’s why I get so much satisfaction out of Barry,” he said, with Oti agreeing, “I can see that and that’s why he’s so protective over you, like a scorpion.”

Speaking to the camera while alone, Strictly Come Dancing star Oti described: “I know that Danny and Barry’s relationship is very special, they’ve come to a point where they love each other and they need each other now. It’s nice to know that not only are you going to leave with a brilliant experience but you’re going to leave here with friends and family for life.”

Back in camp, Danny explained that his dad was his best friend, but things quickly changed: “When he left us, that’s when I had to grow up real fast, I bought my mum’s house. I was 18 years old, I bought myself a flat in London and I bought my mum’s house, and I put my sister through university.”

Danny then admitted in the Bush Telegraph: “I think the world of Barry, he’s amazing and we’ve been through this whole experience together. It’s just nice having someone older than you that does replace that kind of fatherly figure. Just to put his arm around you and have your back. I’ve not had that feeling for a while.”

On Twitter, several viewers of the show were quick to share their support of Danny and Barry’s bond after watching the emotional conversation. “Danny talking about his dad just made me cry even though I already knew about it. It still makes me so sad for him. I love how he’s now got Barry though,” one fan wrote.

“Danny seeing Barry as a sort of father figure is going to make me sob,” said a second, with a third agreeing, “I’m about to start BAWLING at Danny.”

Another fan noted, “Hope Danny and Barry continue their relationship after the show is over.” Sadly, just minutes after Danny’s heartfelt confession, Barry was evicted from the jungle, alongside Love Island star Maura Higgins.
