Buffalo Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid broke his silence on the costly drop at the end of Sunday’s gut-wrenching AFC Championship Game loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Facing a 4th-and-5 situation with two minutes remaining and down by three points, Josh Allen threw a desperate heave to Dalton Kincaid near the Kansas City 35-yard line. Kincaid somehow got behind the Chiefs defense but failed to corral the football:

The Bills never saw the ball again, as the Chiefs picked up two first downs to melt the clock and punch their ticket to the Super Bowl. With that, Buffalo now falls to 0-4 against Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City in the playoffs.

Dalton Kincaid handled his post-game interview like a professional and credited Allen for making the play possible, per Matthew Bové of WKBW:

“I mean, it’s football. Josh made a hell of an attempt just to get the ball up there. Just sucks a lot, not being able to bring it down. Just hurts a lot.”

Buffalo has gone 11-6 or better every year since 2020, including three 13-win seasons and two trips to the AFC Championship Game. And yet, they don’t have a single Super Bowl appearance to show for it.

Dalton Kincaid Can’t Take All The Blame

It’s easy to point the finger solely on Kincaid given the circumstance of that game. But the Bills defense was non-existent for most of the contest, and Josh Allen’s inability to convert a QB sneak on 4th-and-inches (with the Bills up one in the fourth quarter) also proved costly.

Even if Kincaid made that catch? Well, there’s no guarantee they would have scored on that possession anyway. (See last year’s Divisional Round loss to Kansas City).
