When Sir Tom slipped off a podium inside the ‘Vine Booth’, he grabbed the nearest thing to him to steady himself…

So we’re guessing that’s not quite where Sir Tom Jones planned to place his hand when he and Paloma Faith stumbled inside a photobooth at the BBC Music Awards.

The veteran Welsh crooner was larking around with Paloma in the ‘Vine Booth’ at the star-studded show at Earls Court when the pair slipped off the podium.

But while the pair scrambled to remain standing after Sir Tom’s stumble, he reached out to steady himself on the nearest object.

Fortunately Paloma saw the funny side…

Tom, meanwhile, cut a very dapper figure in his grey checked suit and shiny shoes. The 74-year-old star of The Voice finished his look with a natty little pocket square, with his famous salt and pepper beard adding an edge to his look.

The two singers fooled around on the red carpet outside London’s Earl’s Court, and at one point Paloma kissed her pal on the cheek, hastening to wipe the lipstick off afterwards. As well as acting as each others’ date for the evening, the musicians had a job to do: closing the show during the live broadcast on BBC One.

Paloma changed out of her more cumbersome leather outfit for her stage appearance, slipping into something a little more performance friendly – a beige and glitzy, sheer panelled midi-length frock.

The talented singers sang a rendition of God Only Knows and were backed by a 200-strong choir, giving the evening an impressive send-off.

They followed other live acts on the evening, including One Direction, Ellie Goulding, Coldplay and Ella Henderson.

The inaugural BBC Music Awards were dominated by American superstar Pharrell Williams, who took home two of the four awards on offer.

He won the International Artist of the Year gong, and the Song of the Year prize, for his record-breaking single Happy.

Ed Sheeran took home the prize for British Artist of the Year, while newcomers Catfish and the Bottlemen won the BBC Introducing Award.
